Best authentic Mexican in town! Owners are superbly pleasant and food is in good portions. This is the real deal!

A good Mexican food. It seems that they converted a house into a restaurant so it has the homely cozy feel. A little sit out also exist. Parking is tight - we have a dog with us so we did the take out. We liked the food.

A wonderful experience every single time! Playa Chacmool is our family's favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff treat us like their own family, consistently exemplifying attentive and gracious service.

Es muy delicioso. This was one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to as far as food. Def worth 5 stars if you can appreciate the aesthetics of a hole in the wall type of spot. Don't let the outside fool you, the food is banging and the service was good. Would go back for sure.

This place is amazing! The waiters/waitresses treated us in a very friendly manner, and we had to wait less than 5 min for food. The entertainment was magical, and the food delicious! My new favorite restaurant

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The food was delicious and the service was phenomenal! The owner sang while we were there. My oldest child wants to move here just for this food. If you are near St Augustine, this is a must go to!

My husband was born and raised in San Antonio, TX We have dined in MANY Mexican restaurants. For the first time in 30 plus years he absolutely loved the food as well as the service.

Pretty solid, if not super exceptional. You definitely get your money's worth, and prices are reasonable. The margaritas were really tasty, a little weak, which is how I like them - I like them tasty but don't wanna be knocked on my can, lol. I would be happy to go back anytime.Atmosphere is first rate, really cool place to have a meal. Live entertainment was excellent. Right on the corner of D Street and A1A Beach Road. Parking behind the restaurant.

Outstanding. My wife and I try to get here at least once a year...and we are from Denver CO. We love the food, service and atmosphere.

Very confused with the current rating, as not what was expected given the 4.7 rating. Staff were nice enough and helpful when needed, however that was the extent of positive attributes. Food was generally without flavor or visual appeal, small portions and expensive for what it was. Margaritas should have tequila in them, if these did it was not appreciable due to the pre-made mix flavor and high amount of ice. Guacamole portion was about half of expected, and chips and salsa is a one time, small portion bowl. Additionally, no tequila menu. It was subpar in about every category one would look for in a Mexican restaurant. Don't waste your time.

Not very big inside, but it's a nice cozy feel. The service here was incredible!! Our food came fast and the wait staff was not only nice, but funny! It was my daughter's birthday, and they sang to her, guitar, sombrero and all! She also received ice cream. The food was very flavorful, and others in my party agreed (and they had been here within the past 2 weeks). Highly recommend for authentic Mexican food.

This is the most delicious authentic food I've had the pleasure of eating. Service is always pleasant and accommodating whether one is eating in our taking to-go. Thank you for the experience that I will continue to highly recommend!

We were very excited to try this restaurant because we are on vacation and all the food we’ve tried so far has been amazing, but this restaurants food was not pleasant. The only things we really liked were the steak/asada, the chips mild salsa, the rice and beans (they were okay but kind of dry) and the guacamole (which was really just mashed avocado with no seasoning). It was a bit upsetting to have to send all of this food back. The chicken quesadilla was very salty and the alpastor and carnitas were dry the tortillas were also not very authentic because they tasted like store bagged tortillas. The spicy salsa was also very vinegary and not very authentic. It would of been nice if they had other options of salsa that were also more authentic. My child’s fries were regular fries (which was good) and the grilled chicken was decent. But for us the final price was not worth the food.

Authentic mexican food and authentic people. The owner is very friendly and even pays guitar for guests. I never have dessert but I tried the fried ice cream and it was amazing!!!

I finally had a chance to dine at this restaurant after 11 years of residing in town & it was a real pleasure!! The owner seated us & took our order. The margaritas were on happy hour so we ordered four of those & he brought them quickly and with a smile.The place has a small, enclosed patio on the side for outdoor dining. The food was delicious!! Great mom-and-pop style Mexican Restaurant. The service is extremely friendly, and the prices were really good! Great outdoor enclosed seating area, and the decorations and atmosphere inside are really cute and festive! They have a set-up for a live band, but when my family and I went the restaurant was very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely go again!

Best Mexican in St. Augustine. I have been coming here for about 15 years, and its consistent and delicious every time. The nohoch quesadilla is my favorite thing, and I honestly think I order this 94% of the time. The owner is wonderful, kind, and plays the guitar in between waiting on customers. The entire family is great and very hard workers. With my having grown up with small business owners, I always love seeing success stories like this one.

Great small local Mexican place near the beach. Has a "mom and pop" vibe to it with everybody working there together to make it run smooth. Prices are very reasonable and the food is very good. Service was fast, accurate, and cheerful. If Mexican food is what you want near the beach, you should go here. Oh, order the flan for dessert, it's the best, really.

I grew up in Monterey, California and this cozy restaurant took me back to the days I loved. This was a cultural experience through food. So good! The staff treat you like family. I will eat here every time I come to St. AUGUSTINE. The Ambiance is welcoming and you can tell they are proud of their Mayan roots. I absolutely recommend you stop by.

Hands-down the best authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. The food was fantastic. You can tell everything is made with love and their commitment to the quality of food is apparent with how incredible it tastes. The restaurant has all sorts or neat decorations and feels very inviting.By far the best thing about this restaurant is the staff. They were unbelievably friendly and helpful. Their service was great and very attentive. The owner was very personable and gave us recommendations. It was cool seeing him talk to each customer like they were his good friends. He even sang us a beautiful song. If you are in St. Augustine this place is a must try!

Best food and service I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant! What a pleasure to find this place. Live music, cold beer in iced mugs, fantastic service with ever-present smiling faces. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and look forward to returning. Wish we did not live so far away....Playa Chacmool would be frequently seeing our faces!

We stopped here last Saturday afternoon for an early dinner and some margaritas but wound up leaving before we even ordered our food. We were served the margaritas we ordered with a bowl of chips and a tiny serving of salsa. I told our server that we would each need our own tiny salsa, there were 3 of us. She refused to bring us more salsa, explaining that it was not a “chain” restaurant, and they do not give unlimited amounts of chips and salsa. This was before we even had one chip or even tried the salsa. I told her that I would need more salsa with my dinner or we would not be eating there. She said we were free to go somewhere else. I told her that I have NEVER been to a Mexican restaurant that limited salsa to that tiny amount. We left and will never return. I have been to many, many, Mexican restaurants (not chains) in many places, this experience was a first.

I had a great experience in this restaurant, the owner/operator is an excellent host. I arrived with a party of 6 during off-peak hours, we had a warm greeting and quick service. Their prices are unbeatable and the food is the closest I’ve had to original Mexican food in the Saint Augustine beach area. 2 corona extras, side of complementary chips and a giagantic steak burrito, was barely over $20. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

It was a peasant experience dining here. Definitely a hole in the wall kinda place. The food was really good and servings were more than enough. Two people could actually eat from the same plate. There are a lot of choices off of the kids menu as well. The people are really nice and so friendly to our children. I believe one of the owners was playing his guitar around to the tables, which was really enjoyable. Overall the best place we ate at drying our trip to St. Augustine. We will be going back. My only complaint is the parking lot was kinda a mess when it was raining.

I came into town for a few days with some friends, and decided to order from here. I can definitely say if I come back to town I’ll be stopping by. They were so friendly and helpful. We came in with a big order, and they were so patient with us. It’s safe to say they have the best customer service, not to mention the food is amazing! ♥️

Whole family loved it! We came for dinner and it was great! Great food that came out fast. Almost everyone in our family cleaned their plates! The beef and chicken was extraordinary and the beans made it 100 times better! Another thing that I loved was that they didn't waste straws! (Only gave out straws if you wanted them) 😁Great food for a good price!

My wife found this place online while searching for somewhere to eat in St. Augustine Beach on the fly. we were passing thru and wanted some good mexican food. Looked at the reviews and apart from the one or two negative ones, we decided to give it a shot. We are SO happy we did. Food was amazing, the chicken Mole is amazing, my wife loved it and it has been a long time since she has had some good Mole. I had the two piece combination with rice and beans... I had the pulled chicken quesadilla and chimi, these too were awesome. The queso dip is awesome too, great flavor, even thought it seems a little water down or just too long in the microwave.If you are passing thru or vacationing in this area, give it a shot, the service and food is awesome. We didnt hear anyone singing on sunday afternoon, but it was a pleasant atmosphere.

If I could give 10 stars, I would! This Mexican restaurant is awesome! The building is kind of small, but very clean and welcoming. The owner waited on us and he was so attentive and sweet! He kept our drinks and chips/salsa full! Then the food....oh my goodness! It was so delicious! The portion sizes are large and the cheese dip was so creamy! Definitely going back!

Service was excellent, food was hot and delicious. Great little place for tasty food. Shrimp fajitas were good, local fresh shrimp would make it perfect. Enchiladas Suizas were great, I should have requested corn tortillas instead of flour. Chicken street tacos were great. Rice and beans were ok. Very good salsa, no bite though, mild as can be. Chips were served late, and for three of us there were not nearly enough. They brought more once requested. We will be back!
